- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, melted butter, eggs, and yeast mixture.
- Gradually add the flour and salt to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook for this step.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
Prepare the Filling
- In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
Assembly
- Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down to release the air.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a large rectangle, about 1/4-inch thick.
- Spread the cinnamon-sugar butter mixture evenly over the dough.
- Sprinkle the chopped nuts (if using) evenly over the buttered dough.
- Roll the dough up tightly, starting from one long edge, to form a log.
- Cut the log into 12 equal pieces.
Baking
- Place the cut rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking pan, leaving a little space between each.
- Cover the pan with a kitchen towel and let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes while you preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until they are golden brown and baked through.
Make the Maple Frosting
- In a bowl, whisk together the melted butter, pure maple syrup, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
Frost the Sweet Buns
